The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) today issued a strong warning to vloggers and social media platforms against the selective circulation of content, alleging that such actions have contributed to recent tensions in the state.
The warning was delivered by COCOMI spokesperson Santa Nahakpam during a press meet held at the committee’s office in Lamphel. He was addressing the incidents reported on April 25 at Tronglaobi and along the Imphal–Ukhrul road near TM Kasom, while also responding to a seven-point memorandum submitted by the committee to the Manipur Government.
Santa Nahakpam stated that an organised mob had gathered on the day of the incident, and preliminary evidence from vloggers’ footage and CCTV recordings indicated the involvement of certain individuals, whose identities are yet to be fully verified. He added that while some individuals have voluntarily approached COCOMI, others remain unaccounted for.
Raising concern over the role of digital platforms, he alleged that certain personal vloggers selectively uploaded videos focusing only on two women speakers, while omitting broader footage of the rally and the COCOMI press briefing. He cautioned that such selective presentation of events could mislead the public and escalate tensions.
COCOMI has lodged a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, submitting relevant evidence. According to Santa Nahakpam, the complaint specifically names a platform identified as “Awonba Manipur.” However, he noted that there has been no official confirmation from the police regarding any arrests so far.
He further alleged that another social media platform, “News PINT,” played a role in instigating the April 25 incident. The committee maintained that the circulation of selective videos contributed to heightened tensions, which eventually led to a road blockade at Keishampat.
Holding “Awonba Manipur,” “News PINT,” and certain individual social media pages responsible, COCOMI urged authorities to take appropriate action while cautioning content creators against practices that could disturb public order.
