Imphal, Sept 7:
In response to continuous bomb attacks on Meitei villages by armed Kuki terrorists using drones, rockets, and sophisticated weaponry since September 1, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has demanded the resignation of Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh. COCOMI blames the two officials for their failure to contain the escalating violence and protect civilians in the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
In a formal representation submitted today, COCOMI expressed its deep dissatisfaction with how the crisis has been handled. Addressing Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, who also serves as Chairman of the Unified Command overseeing all armed forces in Manipur, COCOMI stated, “Your inaction has allowed the situation to deteriorate further, and we no longer have confidence in your leadership.” The committee accused Singh of failing to take decisive action, leading to a worsening of the security situation in the state.
A separate representation was sent to DGP Rajiv Singh, criticizing his perceived failure to address the security concerns of the people. “Despite our patience and repeated appeals for action against these terrorist groups, the people of Manipur have lost faith in your ability to protect them effectively,” COCOMI said. The committee emphasized that under his leadership, the state’s security has not been prioritized, further aggravating the crisis.
COCOMI specifically highlighted the threat posed by continuous drone bombings and aerial attacks by armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups operating from the hill areas. These attacks have put civilians at severe risk, yet, according to the committee, there has been no meaningful response or intervention from the authorities. COCOMI also criticized the irregularities in public statements made by both officials, noting that their failure to coordinate a cohesive and effective response from the armed forces demonstrates an inability to manage the crisis.
The indigenous population of Manipur has been suffering due to this perceived neglect, and COCOMI warned that the situation could deteriorate further if immediate action is not taken.
