CM reviews relief measures; apprises PM of flood crisis

Imphal, July 9: Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh today inspected flood affected areas of Khurai and Khetrigao of Imphal East and surrounding areas.
Biren Singh accompanied by Khurai MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Home L Susindro Singh and Khetrigao MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for MAHUD N Indrajit Singh reviewed relief measures in the two constituencies.
The Chief Minister during the visit also interacted with the flood-affected victims at relief camps. While interacting with the inmates of the relief camps Biren Singh assured them to provide all assistance as per rule.
While reviewing the relief measures, he provided immediate relief materials and cash to the victims.
Thousands of people have taken shelter in various relief camps as waters of Imphal, Nambul and Iril rivers entered various localities of Imphal after torrential rains.
Imphal and other adjoining areas of Manipur after heavy downpours have been witnessing flash floods. Inundation has taken place in many areas of Manipur valley.
It has been estimated that nearly 1 lakh people were affected by floods and some areas continue to bear the brunt.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited some of the flood-affected areas in Imphal’s East and West districts and assured that money would be given for the reconstruction of houses destroyed in the floods. He also promised relief material for inmates of relief camps.
The Centre is yet to send a team to assess the damages so as to declare the floods as state calamity.
All commodities which are brought from other states have become costlier while heavy demand items are in low supply as a result of landslides along the roads.
Biren said he is in talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the situation.
