Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today attended the state-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026, organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, at the Main Auditorium of the City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The Chief Minister graced the programme as the Chief Guest in the presence of senior government officials, representatives of various departments, civil society organisations, students and other invited guests.
The observance was held to reinforce global and national efforts to prevent drug abuse and combat illicit drug trafficking. The programme highlighted this year’s message, “Yes to Life, No to Drugs,” underscoring the importance of collective action in protecting society, particularly the younger generation, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated the Government of Manipur’s commitment to tackling the drug menace through a comprehensive strategy combining strict law enforcement, preventive measures, rehabilitation services and sustained public awareness campaigns. He stressed that the fight against drugs requires the active participation of government agencies, law enforcement authorities, educational institutions, civil society organisations and the public.
The Chief Minister called upon all sections of society to work together in promoting a healthy lifestyle and preventing young people from falling prey to drug addiction. He noted that collective responsibility and community participation are essential for creating a safe and drug-free environment.
The programme formed part of the state’s observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, reaffirming the government’s resolve to strengthen anti-drug initiatives and intensify efforts to eliminate illicit drug trafficking while ensuring rehabilitation and support for those affected by substance abuse.
