Imphal, Sept 1:

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has reiterated his commitment to tackling the growing drug menace in the state, which he warned could turn Manipur into a major hub for poppy production and trafficking. Highlighting the state’s proximity to the Golden Triangle, a notorious drug trade route he referred to as the “Dead Triangle,” Singh emphasized the urgency of the fight against drugs, especially given that around 1.5 lakh youth in Manipur have already been affected.
Taking to social media platform X, CM Biren Singh stressed the need to protect the country from the scourge of drugs. He noted that illegal immigrants from Myanmar are not only crossing into India unlawfully but are also exacerbating the drug problem, contributing to the destruction of the state’s youth.
The Chief Minister also detailed the efforts of the BJP-led coalition government to combat this issue through the ‘War on Drugs Mission,’ launched in November 2018. Since the campaign’s inception, illicit narcotics worth over Rs 60,000 crore have been seized, and 16,161 acres of poppy cultivation have been destroyed. Additionally, 2,351 cases have been registered, and over 18,000 kg of drugs have been seized to date.
Singh expressed his gratitude for the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah, acknowledging the widespread backing the BJP 2.0 campaign has received across various sectors of society. He concluded with a call to action, urging the nation to join him in the critical battle to safeguard the future of the country.
