CM N Biren Singh leaves for Delhi amid speculation of leadership change

Imphal, Feb 7:

Amid rising speculation about a possible change in leadership within the BJP-led Manipur government, Chief Minister N Biren Singh left for New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. He boarded an IndiGo flight at 1:40 PM from Imphal International Airport.
Sources indicate that CM N Biren Singh has been summoned by the BJP high command and is set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at 8 PM. This comes at a crucial time when the political landscape in Manipur is witnessing intense discussions about governance and the ongoing crisis in the state.
Earlier on Monday, Manipur’s Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Minister Yumnam Khemchand was also summoned to Delhi by Amit Shah, adding to the swirling speculations about a possible shift in leadership.
The developments come ahead of the seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. In a notable series of meetings, Speaker Th Satyabrata was called to Delhi, followed by interactions between Amit Shah and several Ministers and MLAs from the state government. The meetings are being closely watched as political realignments within the BJP’s Manipur unit seem to be taking shape.
Adding fuel to the fire, before leaving for Delhi, Khemchand reportedly met with several BJP MLAs who are dissatisfied with N Biren Singh’s leadership, particularly in handling the prolonged Manipur crisis. The dissenting MLAs are said to be pushing for a change in leadership, citing concerns over the government’s response to the ethnic violence and internal party issues.
Political observers suggest that the series of summons to Delhi signals an internal review within the BJP high command regarding Biren Singh’s future as Chief Minister. With tensions high and speculations rife, all eyes are now on the outcome of N Biren Singh’s meeting with Amit Shah, which could determine the next course of action in Manipur’s political landscape.
