CM, MPPC president, among others greets people on Mera Houchongba

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Works Minister Th Biswajit, CAF and PD Minister Th.Satyabrata, State Congress President N. Loken among others greets the people of Manipur on occasion of the Mera Hou Chongba festival which falls on October 20 this year.
The festival has been celebrated annually on the full-moon of the month of Mera in the Manipuri lunar calendar since time immemorial. It promotes a sense of brotherhood, peace, solidarity and unity among various indigenous communities living in the State. The festival also has its relevance in re-affirming the close bond and ties between hill and valley people in the State. It also marks the solidarity among different ethnic groups in Manipur and symbolises our belief in the principle of pluralism and co-existence.
“Let us together reaffirm our unyielding commitment to maintain unity and harmony among our different communities,” said N. Biren Singh
Works Minister Th Biswajit while greeting the people said, “Mera Houchongba is a festival in which people from both hills and valley participated with the sense of brotherhood and oneness. It is a festival which aims to unite the people of the state while promoting culture, traditions, and sports. May this year celebration of the festival brings peace, prosperity and brotherhood in the State”
CAF&PD Minister Th Satyabrata message Mera Houchongba festival speaks of the recollection of the historic site of Kangla through a public procession and reviving integrity amongst the various hill Tribes and Meiteis of Manipur. The main significance of the festival aims at building hill-plain relationships on a strong foothold.
President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), N. Loken greets the people of the state on occasion of Mera Houchongba. In his message, the PCC president said that Mera Houchongba was a cultural festival of Manipur instituted under the monarchy and celebrated by people of various communities at Kangla on the 15th day of Meitei lunar month of Mera (October – November).
“In the day of yore, the festival was under the royal patronage and attended by the king, nobles, and dignitaries from across the communities and regions. The people from different communities attending the festival wore their respective ornamented traditional attires which presented an apparent look of the cultural mosaic. Till today, the people of the state has been celebrating the festival as such”, N. Loken said.
