While calling the demands of the All Manipur Municipality Employee Workers’ Union for implementation of the sixth pay as reasonable, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today said that his government is helpless as the state does not have adequate fund.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the State Level Consultative Workshop on Municipal Resource Mobilization and Implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) and NULM held at City Convention Centre, Imphal he said that the demand of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO and other organizations, for increment of 29 percent in the salary that was increased recently by the central government, cannot be implemented for the state at the moment. He however, appealed to wait for some more days.
“Every time the central government increase the pay scale for central government employees, state face many problem as they did not sanction additional fund for increment of salary for state government employees”, Ibobi said.
He further added that the properties tax being collected from the Imphal municipality area will also be collected from other municipality areas of the state; he further added that every municipality corporation, council and Nagar Panchayat should work to sustain themselves.
“Local bodies need to mobilize resource and should be considered as most important task for them”, Ibobi said.
He further added that for Imphal Municipality Corporation, government is preparing a notification for collection of property tax. This will be followed to other local bodies.
In today’s consultative workshop, Secretary of MAHUD, RK. Dinesh, and Retd. Commissioner and advisor to government of Manipur Dr. RK Nimai Singh were also attended .
