CM launches BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026, flags off cyclothon

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today launched BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 and flagged off a cyclothon at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal, marking the beginning of a weeklong campaign from November 1 to 7 to promote environmentally responsible lifestyles.

The initiative, organised by the Government of Manipur, draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which encourages sustainable practices through changes in everyday habits.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Manipur’s rich biodiversity, forests, rivers and wetlands were invaluable natural assets that must be protected for future generations. He stressed that environmental conservation was a collective responsibility and called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to adopt sustainable practices.

He urged people to conserve water and energy, avoid single-use plastics, reduce waste and maintain clean surroundings. He also called on government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and community organisations to actively participate in the campaign and make environmental protection part of everyday life.

During the programme, the Chief Minister administered an environmental protection pledge and joined other dignitaries in planting saplings at the sports complex.

Around 200 cyclists were flagged off from Khuman Lampak. The rally proceeded through Khuyathong Road, Babupara, Imphal West and Imphal East before returning to the starting point.

Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, senior government officials, students and other participants attended the programme.
