Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the 75th Van Mahotsav, 2024 under the theme “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam” at Chingpu Sabi Lairembi Ching, Lamlai Imphal East. The programme was organised by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Biren Singh applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his innovative idea of planting trees in the name of mother. Such will enhance the bonding to the plant for future nurturing, he added.
Further, the Chief Minister elaborated the need for mass tree plantation. We need nature to survive but nature doesn’t need us, he added. Global warming and climate change led to natural calamities in the State. Mass tree plantation has been conducted and we are targeting to plant around 70 lakhs tree saplings in the State till September 2024, he added.
During the program, the Chief Minister assured that water supply scheme will be set up in every village of the constituency.
11 football grounds of International standards will be developed in the State, he added. Out of which, a football ground is being developed in Lamlai AC under the scheme.
While delivering his Presidential speech, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister, Thongam Biswajit Singh stated that 140 crores tree saplings will be planted under the “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam” across the country. Van Mahotsav is being observed to spread awareness among the students, youth and masses to protect, conserve and preserve the forest. Speaking on the importance of trees and forest, he encouraged the public to plant more trees in the State.
The programme was attended by Fisheries Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Chairman Hill Area Committee Dinganglung Gangmei, MLAs, officials of Forest Department, students, and residents of Lamlai.
