Violence erupted at Namdilong Naga Village in Kanglatongbi today after security forces clashed with protesters from Naga and Meitei communities during the ongoing sit-in protest demanding justice for six Naga individuals reportedly murdered by Kuki militants.
According to reports, the security forces resorted to firing tear gas shells and resorting to other forms of dispersal measures following stone pelting by the protesters, leaving 10 protesters injured. The protesters gathered at Kanglatongbi today demanding justice for the six Naga individuals and taking legal action against those involved in their murders.
It may be mentioned here that several protesters sustained injuries, with one of them including the widow of the deceased Phenrongdibou, reportedly traumatized and shocked due to the brutal actions of the security forces during the clash. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for further medical attention following the clash.
The ongoing sit-in protest was organized by local indigenous groups at Kanglatongbi Bazaar under the banner of the United Naga Council (UNC) demanding justice for the six Liangmai villagers who were brutally murdered by Kuki militants after being kidnapped and also protesting the Census exercise until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated in Manipur.
