Clarification on impersonation of Kom identity on Social Media

IT News
Imphal, Aug 11:

A recent cultural event held in Delhi on 9th August 2024 has garnered widespread attention on social media, particularly on Facebook. During the event, an unknown individual was observed impersonating Kom cultural attire and falsely claiming to represent the Kom community within the Kuki-Zo community.
The Secretary of Information & Publicity for the Kom Union Manipur (KUM) has stated that the Kom community has consistently maintained a neutral stance in the current conflict. The misuse of Kom identity by non-Kom individuals at this event is deemed both alarming and unacceptable. This act not only misrepresents the Kom community’s position but also threatens the community’s integrity.
The KUM has condemned this misrepresentation and the appropriation of Kom cultural symbols for purposes contrary to the community’s values and interests. Such actions are seen as potentially inciting unnecessary tensions and misunderstandings, particularly in the current sensitive socio-political environment. The Kom community, according to the statement, should not be drawn into conflicts that do not concern them. The community continues to advocate for peace and tranquility and urges all individuals and groups to respect each other’s cultural identities and positions during these complex times.
