Churachandpur student’s body recovered after three-day search

The body of a Class VIII student of Radhakrishnan Foundation School, Tuibong, was recovered today after a massive three-day search along the Khuga River.

Churachandpur District administration teams, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local civil organisations recovered the body near the Khengjang power substation area in the Tuitha (Khuga) river, where she was trapped in mud. She had gone missing after being swept away by flash flood currents triggered by incessant rainfall while returning home from school.

The student disappeared on Thursday, prompting large-scale search operations along the Khuga River. Following a requisition from the Sub-Divisional Officer, Tuibong, and approval from the Deputy Commissioner/DDMA Churachandpur, an SDRF team was deployed from Imphal.

Led by Havildar Riyajuddin, the SDRF team reached the area on Friday and began search operations from Zero Point, the location where the girl was last seen being carried away by the flood.

Local authorities are investigating the incident and coordinating with the family. Further details, including the exact time of recovery and next steps, were being finalised.
