Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today received an invitation for the Durand Cup 2026 from Brigadier Sachin S. Mahadik, VSM, Commander of the 59 Mountain Brigade, during a meeting at the Manipur Secretariat.
In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said it was a matter of pride that Imphal would once again co-host the prestigious football tournament at Khuman Lampak Stadium. He said the event would provide a national platform for local football talent, strengthen sports infrastructure and showcase Manipur’s rich footballing legacy. He also extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the tournament.
Later in the day, The Chief Minister was called on by the newly appointed Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), H. Gyan Prakash, who was accompanied by MPSC Secretary Neeta Arambam. The Chief Minister said the commission plays a vital role in ensuring fair, transparent and merit-based recruitment to the State Civil Services and various government departments. He expressed confidence that the commission would continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability and wished the new chairman a successful tenure.
The Chief Minister also chaired a review meeting of the Fisheries Department at the Secretariat with Commissioner and Secretary (Fisheries) Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, Director (Fisheries) T. Phulen Meitei and other senior officials.
According to the Chief Minister, the meeting reviewed the department’s progress in inland fisheries management, fish production and welfare programmes for fishing communities, besides discussing operational and staffing issues. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the fisheries sector through sustainable pisciculture and measures to improve the livelihoods of fishing communities.
