Imphal, Aug 28:

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today lauded the success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), proclaiming it as the world’s largest financial inclusion scheme. In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) platform, the Chief Minister highlighted the remarkable milestone achieved by PMJDY, stating that the number of beneficiaries under the scheme now surpasses the population of several countries.
“The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has become the world’s largest financial inclusion scheme, achieving the number of beneficiaries higher than the population of several countries. These incredible achievements are made possible under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been leading the nation towards an era of unprecedented growth and development,” wrote Singh.
Launched in August 2014, PMJDY is one of the flagship initiatives of the Modi government, aimed at ensuring access to financial services, such as banking, savings, deposits, remittances, credit, insurance, and pensions, to the unbanked population of India. Over the years, the scheme has expanded its reach, particularly in rural and remote areas, where financial inclusion was previously minimal.
As of the latest figures, PMJDY has opened over 50 crore bank accounts, with more than half of them belonging to women. This significant achievement has not only empowered millions of individuals and households but has also contributed to a broader socio-economic transformation across the nation.
Chief Minister Singh emphasized that the scheme’s success is a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive development. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, noting that his visionary policies have laid the foundation for India’s ongoing economic growth.
“The success of PMJDY reflects our government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development. By bringing financial services to the doorsteps of the underprivileged, we are fostering a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to prosper,” Singh added in his post.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes at a time when the government is focusing on further strengthening the financial infrastructure in the country, particularly in regions like Northeast India, where financial inclusion has historically been a challenge. The PMJDY has played a crucial role in bridging the gap, with millions of people in Manipur and other northeastern states now having access to formal banking services.
