Chief Minister N. Biren Singh flagged off a journey of journalistic exploration, as a bus carrying a team of media professionals under the leadership of the president of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) embarked on an external tour to the Andaman Islands. The ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s Bungalow, where Chief Minister Singh extended his best wishes for a fruitful and safe voyage.
Expressing gratitude towards the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister of India for their recognition of Manipur’s historical significance, particularly the replacement of Mount Hurriet with Mount Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh applauded the journalists’ initiative in visiting a place deeply intertwined with Manipur’s past struggles against British rule.
The delegation comprises 30 media personnel, including officials from the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), organized by the All Manipur Working Journalists Union. Throughout the tour, participants will engage in various activities, such as attending a Light and Sound exhibition at Cellular Jail, exploring Mount Manipur National Park, and visiting iconic sites like Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park in Wandoor, Jolly Buoy Island, Limestone Cave in Baratang Island, and Ross and Smith Island.
The flag-off ceremony was also attended by MLA Th. Shyamkumar, MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh, MLA Kongkham Robindro Singh, IPR Commissioner M. Joy Singh, and DIPR Director Dr. Th Charanjit Singh, among others, underscoring the significance of this journalistic endeavour.
