Chief Minister Khemchand meets PM; Centre sanctions 5,000 PMAY-G houses for displaced families in Manipur

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, today called on the Prime Minister of India, sources in New Delhi told Imphal Times.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the two Deputy Chief Ministers have been in New Delhi since February 21, meeting various Union Ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and BJP National President Nitin Nabin, among others, after paying tribute to MLA Vungzagin Valte.
Details of the meeting with the Prime Minister are yet to be made known. However, sources stated that the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Ministers held in-depth discussions on the overall development situation in Manipur. Security measures undertaken in the state and responses from various communities were also reportedly discussed.
Meanwhile, reports stated that the Centre has approved the construction of 5,000 houses in Manipur for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin for the financial year 2025–26.
The decision followed a meeting between Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Minister’s residence in New Delhi on Monday evening. The Deputy Chief Ministers were also present.
The Union Minister assured full support to the state in its efforts to restore normalcy following the ethnic violence that displaced thousands of families. The proposal for a special PMAY-G project had been submitted earlier this month.
The Ministry of Rural Development has opened a special window under Awaas+ 2024 to register eligible families. Beneficiary identification will strictly follow PMAY-G guidelines and must be uploaded through the Awaas+ 2024 mobile application. Those whose previously sanctioned houses were destroyed in the violence will also be eligible for fresh assistance.
