Imphal, Feb 19:
Former MP Th. Meinya said that the Centre and State government must ensure a cease-fire between the two warring communities before engaging in discussions for the resolution of the conflict. He made this statement at the Old Age Home Langjing Achouba while attending its sixth-anniversary celebration yesterday.
In a statement released by Gita Konthoujam, Secretary of Langjing Achouba Old Age Home, it was mentioned that the event was organized to mark its sixth anniversary. Th. Meinya Singh was the guest of honour at the event. Chief Advisor of the old age home RK Maipasana attended the program as the president, and Imphal West Zilla Parishad Ex. Up-Adgyaksha L. Boby Devi attended the event as special guests. Old Age Home’s Advisor TM Rajen Ayangba and All Manipur Dalit Development Association’s Superintendent Haobam Sashi also attended as special guests.
Speaking to the media, Th. Meinya said, “It is not conducive for the state to hold Lok Sabha elections given the ongoing violence. If they want to conduct elections, they should first find a resolution to these issues.” To create a conducive environment for resolution, there should be a cease-fire between the two communities, a responsibility that the Centre and State government must ensure.
Furthermore, he expressed that the election can be delayed given the tumultuous situation in Manipur. Praising the efforts of the organizers of the old age home, he said that even though the increasing number of old age homes is not a good sign, it is heart-warming that we are taking care of the elders.
