Imphal, Dec 23: Union Minister of state for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, who arrived here in Imphal today morning to take stock of the prevailing condition in the state said that the center is providing all sort of assistant to the state government to ensure that people in the state do not suffer due to the ongoing economic blockade. The Union Minister however said that maintenance of law and order is absolutely in the domain of the state government.
“Road blockade is unacceptable, this must be made through at any cost”, said Rijiju while speaking to reporters at Old Secretariat Conference Hall here in Imphal.
Because of political differences one cannot make common people suffer, added the Union Home Minister.
Earlier, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs along with the Joint Secretary Home had met the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and DGP Khoute and discussed in dept about the prevailing situation in the state arises out of the prolong economic blockade ensued by the NSCN-IM. In the meeting Kiren Rijiju had assured all required assistance from the side of the Union government besides providing the additional security forces.
“In the last 52 days the Government of India has been continuously monitoring the situation and providing all kinds of assistance”, Kiren Rijiju said.
He said there were some misunderstandings over the deployment of central para military forces. However the central government clarified that a total of 184 campanies had already been deployed which is adequate for internal security. It is upto the state government that security forces are being utilized for safeguarding of anything related to state.
