People of Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency dares COVID-19 scare and violated the SOP which prohibits gathering of not more than 30 people and that too by social distancing, as Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh visited Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency and kick started by-election campaign for ex-MLA Paonam Brojen .
The by-election for the vacant assembly seat of Manipur is likely to be held by November along with 64 other vacant seats of assembly constituencies across the country.
COVID-19 pandemic has already restricted excessive use of vehicles and mass gathering even after Unlock 4. Election Commission of India has also announced SOPs that has to be followed during the election campaign.
As of now only 50 people are permitted to gather that too following the SOP for ritual related events like marriage ceremony and shradha .
Interestingly at the election campaign that was held today at Sapam Community Hall of Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency, media witnessed jam packed supporters inside the community hall which the number of people gathered is expected to be over 500.
As the Chief Minister arrived at Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency hundreds of BJP supporters stands on the road side and shouted slogans praising the Chief Minister.
Mention may be made that there has been several criticism from sections of civil bodies to the proposed schedule of by-election during COVID-19 pandemic.
