By-Election, ADC election or any election during COVID-19 pandemic not appropriate – CSOs

Various civil society bodies of the state has strongly opposed the conducting of any kind of election including the by-election, ADC election or any kind of election when across the globe including Manipur are facing dreaded COVID-19 Pandemic.

A joint press statement by civil bodies CCSK, HERICOUN, LIPUL, MMWO and UCM today said that conducting election at this crisis time is putting the life of the people in danger . The CSOs appealed to postponed the election for time being.

The CSOs hit hard to the MLAs who had resigned from the membership of the state Assembly, terming their resignation for the sake of power leaving the people of their constituency to their own to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They have resigned from the MLA ship for their selfish gain and now they are putting the people to the jaw of death by conducting the by-election”, the joint statement said.
