Bomb threat at Sur Hospital owner’s home; Protesters block road

Irate locals today blocked National Highway 102 at Khangabok Bazar after a bomb was placed at the residence of Dr. Laishram Somen, proprietor of Sur Hospital at Khangabok Awang Leikai, by unknown armed individuals. A sit-in protest denouncing the incident was held today at Khangabok Bazar, and resolutions were taken.
Witnesses reported that around 9:00 PM, a group of eight to nine armed men arrived in a Gypsy vehicle, inquiring about Dr. Somen and intimidating his family at gunpoint. The assailants placed a hand grenade inside a dressing table in the residence and took away four mobile phones.
A team of Thoubal police led by a Sub Inspector rushed to the spot and remove the bomb at around 9:45pm without any untoward incident.
After the incident, a large number of people from Khangabok started blocking the road at Khangabok Bazar on National Highway 102. The irate locals also blocked the Imphal-Moreh road at Wangbal Khongnang Makhong and Arong Thong. Later, around 1:30 PM, the protestors blocked one side of the road and staged a sit-in protest.
