Unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at the gate of a residence at Iroisemba Mamang Leikai on yesterday night, causing damage to property but no injuries.
The incident occurred at around 10 pm at the residence of Khumbongmayum Chaoba (52), son of Khumbongmayum Rupachandra, located at Lane No. 4 under Lamphel Police Station. Khumbongmayum Chaoba is a contractor associated with the IFCD and an intending candidate for the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Uripok Assembly Constituency.
The explosion damaged a portion of the gate and boundary wall, with splinters scattered around the area. Police personnel from Lamphel Police Station rushed to the spot soon after the incident and conducted a preliminary inspection.
Preliminary investigation, including scrutiny of CCTV footage from nearby locations, indicated that the bomb was hurled by two masked individuals who arrived on a Pulsar motorcycle. The assailants fled immediately after carrying out the attack.
Recounting the incident, Khumbongmayum Chaoba stated that the explosion took place when family members were inside the house preparing for the night. Hearing a loud sound, they rushed outside and found flames and smoke at the gate caused by the blast. He noted that the road where the incident occurred is usually frequented by the public and expressed concern over such an act being carried out in a populated locality.
Condemning the attack, he urged that such acts should not be repeated and maintained that any grievances should be addressed through peaceful means.
