Mumbai, April 14

With local residents not cooperating with COVID-19 survey team, the Nagpur East MLA Krishna Khopde has demanded deployment of the military in Satranjipura, Mominpura areas of Nagpur.

The survey team of Nagpur Municipal Corporation(NMC) has began door to door survey to find out if anyone with COVID 19 symptoms is in locality. However the local residents are not cooperating and are also attacking the team members.

A woman ASHA worker on survey was heckled and abused at Kamgar Nagar on Monday. Some of the locals insisted on her identity card and despite showing her I card, they insisted on verifying all the survey forms she had. Besides, most of the residents are giving fictitious names and were refusing to produce vital documents like aadhar card.

The locals also get irritated if they are asked whether anyone from their family had recently visited Delhi. Assistant Medical Officer Dr Pravin Gantawar said that it is difficult to conduct survey in such a hostile atmosphere.

When the news of detection of six positive cases in Mominpura broke out on Thursday night, the NMC’ team rushed to the area. But instead of cooperating with the team, the locals abused them. Some of the locals also pelted stones at the team members.

BJP MLA Krishna Khopde said that “The densely populated area of Satranjipura should be handed over to the military. It will also force those with Markaz (Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin) links to come forward. I have spoken to the Nagpur municipal commissioner about it and demanded deployment of the military,” he claimed.

The Tablighi Jamaat event is being seen as one of the biggest reasons for the coronavirus outbreak as several of the attendees, who tested positive later, fanned out across the country on preaching assignments.

Meanwhile, the NMC on Monday declared localities like Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Nagpur Ward no 3, Ashi Nagar Zone 3 and Ward no 5, which is Satranjipura zone” as “prohibited area” and sealed them off to stall the spread of the virus.

It may be recalled that COVID 19 Health Officials were attacked by locals in Indore In Madhya Pradesh.
