BJP Heingang Mandal slams CLP leader O. Ibobi Singh, labels him power-hungry

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Heingang Mandal has strongly criticised Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and former Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh, accusing him of being power-hungry and attempting to mislead the public amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
In a press release signed by General Secretary W. Surchandra Singh, the BJP alleged that Ibobi’s recent visits to various Panchayat areas in Imphal West were politically motivated and aimed at regaining lost political ground rather than contributing to peace or offering any real solutions.
The BJP asserted that the state and central governments were working in coordination to manage the situation effectively, while Ibobi was using the unrest to create political unrest. The statement defended the ongoing biometric data collection of undocumented immigrants under the Free Movement Regime (FMR) as a vital step to regulate border movement, something the Congress government had failed to address during its long tenure.
Highlighting key achievements under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s leadership, the BJP mentioned completion of strategic bridges like Makru, Barak, and Irang, along with multiple RCC bridges on the Imphal-Jiribam road and the introduction of helicopter emergency services to hill districts.
The Mandal also pointed out that it was under the BJP regime in 2019 that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) was implemented in Manipur, a longstanding demand ignored by previous Congress governments.
On the SoO agreement with Kuki armed groups, the BJP accused past Congress leaders of enabling the Myanmar based insurgent camps around the valley area under the guise of peace efforts.
Calling on the public to reject divisive politics, the BJP concluded that Ibobi’s actions only reflect his desperation to stay politically relevant.
