Imphal, June 29: Former Minister and BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson, Moirangthem Hemanta demanded to punish the concern engineers and contractors who constructed Thoubal Wangmataba shopping complex, which was found tilted on June 24 towards Thoubal river, according to law of the land.
Stating that people of the state are not satisfied with the irresponsible statements made by Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh on every issues, Hemanta said that the skidding of the shopping complex towards Thoubal river has raised questions on the structural integrity of the building.
Hemanta said that the statement of the Ibobi favouring the engineers and contractors is becoming of an irresponsible CM. While, the former Minister questioned why the government failed to conduct open tender before construction of the market building and is hiding the names of the contractors responsible for construction of the shopping complex.
He said Chief Minister has acted against the expectation of the people that the Chief Minister would initiate action against the erring engineers and contractors exercising his powers and function as CM.
Alleging that the ruling Indian National Congress continues to loot huge public money in the name of infrastructural development, the BJP spokesman said that many dams, market shed, canal building constructed during the Congress regime had collapsed due to lack of quality control.
He demanded that government should register an FIR against the erring officials and contractors and arrest them at the earliest.
“Congress government is working for their profits only. As such the party is coming to downfall day by day”, he said.
“Notably, the shopping complex situated at Thoubal Wangma Lai Sanglen ward number 2 was constructed right near the river embankment by SIMPLEX, a company responsible for building major mega projects in the state including the Khwairamband market that was recently damaged during the January 5 earthquake,” Hemanta said.
As the building skidded towards Thoubal river shopkeepers panicked and immediately evacuated while a gap of 30 feet wide and 2 feet deep was created from its existing position.
The construction work of the shopping complex costing over 45 lakhs was started in the year 2013 and completed in the end of 2015 with the PWD as the nodal agency.
Three months after the completion the shopping complex was made operational with 16 shops at the ground floor and 14 shops on the first floor.
