Bishnupur and Chandel pick up for NDA’s 100 smart cities

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today approved 100 Smart City Projects. The Smart City vision was announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the first Union Budget of NDA government in July last year. Two of the cities are selected from Chandel and Bishnupur district in Manipur. According to source, Holenphai in Chandel district is one among the location picked up for upgrading 100 smart cities.
‘Smart City’ is an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the pressure off Indian metros. Ahead of general election last year, Modi had promised 100 smart cities by 2022 to help meet the rush.
A smart city in Gujarat is currently under construction.
India has allocated nearly Rs 6000 crore for development of these smart cities.
