Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today called on the people of the state to rise above political and ideological differences in order to safeguard Manipur’s integrity, establish peace, and ensure harmonious coexistence.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the annual Patriots’ Day observance, Biren recalled the courage of Yubraj Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Chirai Naga, and others who, despite knowing the overwhelming strength of the British, chose to fight in defence of their motherland during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.
“Patriots’ Day commemorates that historic sacrifice. Manipur is the legacy left to us by our forefathers,” he said. “We must unite on matters concerning the state, regardless of political or ideological differences, to protect our land, bring peace, and live in coexistence. I appeal to everyone for this unity,” he added.
He further noted that although there is currently no popular government in place, “the MLAs, along with the Governor and senior bureaucratic officers, are working collectively to restore peace, and we will continue to do so.”
