BDS student allegedly attacked with hammer inside RIMS campus

A BDS student of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, was allegedly attacked by an unidentified person while jogging inside the RIMS campus at around 5:30 pm, prompting the institute to tighten campus-entry restrictions.

According to RIMS authorities, the unidentified individual, whose face was reportedly concealed by a mask and hoodie, approached the student and allegedly attempted to strike her with a hammer. The student managed to evade the blow and escaped without sustaining serious injuries.

Following the incident, the student and RIMS authorities lodged separate FIRs with the concerned police authorities for investigation and necessary action.

RIMS condemned the incident and expressed concern over the safety and security of students, staff and other members of the institute community.

As an immediate security measure, RIMS has restricted the entry of outsiders into the campus for jogging, recreational activities and other non-essential purposes after 5 pm until further notice.

The administration has also advised all RIMS staff members to carry and display valid institute identity cards while entering and remaining on campus to facilitate identification and strengthen security.

RIMS urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and comply with the revised entry restrictions. Students and staff have also been advised to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or unidentified persons to security authorities.

The institute said it would take necessary measures to strengthen campus security and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
