The indefinite bandh imposed along the Kangpokpi–Churachandpur route by the Joint Tribe Council (JTC) and the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has entered its 40th day, affecting vehicular movement and normal activities in the foothill areas.
The two organisations have been enforcing the shutdown in protest, pressing for specific demands concerning security and administrative measures in Naga-inhabited foothill regions.
Among their principal demands is that no Suspension of Operations (SoO) camps be established in Naga foothill areas. They have also called for a halt to the construction of what they describe as illegal or unauthorised roads in the region. Additionally, the organisations have demanded strict action to prevent poppy cultivation in the foothill areas.
The prolonged bandh has disrupted transportation along the Kangpokpi–Churachandpur stretch, a key inter-district route, with reports of restricted movement of goods and passengers.
The JTC and FNCC have maintained that the bandh will continue until their demands are addressed. Meanwhile, there has been no official statement from the State Government regarding any breakthrough in negotiations or measures to resolve the impasse.
