Human Rights activist, Babloo Loitongbam refused to apologise to the 60 MLAs for his comment ‘Mithibong Mittambal’ made during a program of a private TV channel on 22nd July of last year while discussing about the issues of agitations raised by the students to implement ILP system in the state.
Human Rights Alert Executive Director Babloo Loitongbam had been summoned to attend the meeting of the committee of Privileges and Ethics, Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the status of the breach of privilege motion moved by Vungzagin Valte, Parliamentary Secretary and Dr I. Ibohalbi, AITC, MLA of Oinam constituency, which was held today at the Assembly House, Chingmeirong.
Addressing reporters today in front of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Chingmeirong Human Rights Alert executive director Babloo Loitongbam said that a privilege motion was moved against him for his statement of ‘mithibong mittambal’ which was made on 22nd July of last year during a discussion in Impact TV channel regarding the issue of ILP agitation. Defending the allegation, Babloo said that the term ‘mithibong mittambal’ was not used to disrespect the house but was used as a sign of frustration on the apparent failure of the house to understand the aspiration of the public. The committee had asked Babloo to apologise after which the allegations against him will be withdrawn but Babloo firmly declined it. The privilege committee will hold another meeting without the presence of Babloo wherein the report will be presented in the Assembly and appropriate action will be taken, added Babloo.
