A public awareness programme on the ban of single-use plastic was held today at Mayeng Lamjao Awang Leikai Community Hall, Kakching district, under the Directorate of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Manipur.
The awareness programme was attended by Mayeng Lamjao Gram Panchayat, Lingjel VLF, Lamjingbi VLF, Mangal VLF, Thoujal VLF, Laimanai SHGs, ASHA and Anganwadi workers of Mayeng Lamjao Gram Panchayat, along with members of the Village Water Sanitation Committee.
As part of the programme, a Single-Use Plastic Ban Awareness Rally was also organised, starting from Mayeng Lamjao Makha Leikai Community Hall and proceeding along Burma Sugnu Road before concluding at Lamjao Awang Leikai.
During the rally, participants carried placards with messages such as “Stop Using Plastic Bags,” “Don’t Be Mean; Feel Free to Use Dustbin,” “We Want Evolution, Clean and Make a Perfect Pair,” “Stop Whining, Start Cleaning,” and “Cleanliness is the Key to Good Health.”
The programme was graced by OC Inspector Dr. Okram Jotin of Waikhong Police Station as Chief Guest, Urikhimbam Narjit as President and AE Kangabam Roshan of PHED Kakching, and Panchayat Secretary Khumballambam Lemba of Mayeng Lamjao Gram Panchayat as Guests of Honour.
Anand Waikhom, President of Workers Union Manipur, and Shinthangamba Laishram, President of Eco Network Manipur attended the programme as resource persons.
During the programme, booklets published by the PHED Department were also distributed to the participants.
