Awareness program on child rights protection held

Association for the Development Indigenous Women and Child Care (ADIWCC) organised one-day awareness program on child rights protection at Taobam village, Noney district.
Gan Kamei, Pastor of Taobam village open the program with a word of prayer.
The Training program was attended by Babuna Dangmei, District Child Protection Officer, Tamenglong, Lungganlung C. Phaomei, Protection Officer (IC), DCPU, Tamenglong and L. Robindro Singh, Legal cum Probation Officer cum Child Marriage Prohibition Officer, DCPU, Tamenglong as a resource person. The resource persons dwelt on the topics such as Salient Features of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 Adoption Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
Babuna Dangmei, District Child Protection Officer, Tamenglong said that No Violence against Children is Justifiable, and All Violence against Children is Preventable. While dealing with any children, the general principles of care and protection of children such as Principles of presumption of innocence and the Principle of best interest of the child should be the primary consideration.
Lunganglung Phaomei, IC (DCPU) Tamenglong speaks about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 which deals with sexual offences against persons below 18 years of age, who are deemed as children.
L. Robindro Singh, LPO cum Child Marriage Prohibition Officer DCPU, Tamenglong stated that The object of the Child Marriage Act is to prohibit solemnization of child marriage and connected and incidental matters and also to ensure that child marriage is eradicated from within the society, the Government of India enacted Prevention of Child marriage Act 2006 by replacing the earlier legislation of Child Marriage Act 1929.
A One Day Awareness & Sensitization programme on Child Rights Protection was fully sponsored by the District Child Protection Unit, Tamenglong District, Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Manipur.
Around 100 leaders of village authority, church leaders and women leaders from across Taobam Irang area attended the programme.
The participant resolved whole heartedly to work hand in hand with DCPU and with all the stake holders to protect the rights of the children.
