ATSUM threatens state-wide general strike from Sept. 28

Imphal, Sept 22: All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) today threatened to call state wide general strike on September 28 over state government failure to response to the charter of demands submitted to the Chief Minister. Vareiyo Shatsang, president ATSUM, while talking to media persons at the sideline of a sit-in-protest staged today at Chingmeirong stated that a charter of demand has been submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur addressing the grievances of the tribal students on August 17, 2017. He said the Chief Minister had appealed the people of the state to express their grievances before calling any bandh or blockade but the grievances of the ATSUM has not been responded till today. He said that if the state government do not give any response to the sit-in-protest staged today the ATSUM will call state wide general strike on September 28. The charter of demand includes appointment of non teaching and teaching faculties and to develop infrastructures at the educational institutions in Hill district, to do away with the culture of utilisation of teachers, establishment of residential schools in the hills, to develop infrastructure for the ZEOs offices, to rationalise teachers, to regularise adhoc teachers and to establish PHC centers in the entire hill districts. Other demands included are to facilitate computer examination centers in the Hill districts and also to comply with the 31% reservation policy for the ST students at Manipur University and also to initiate reservation for ST candidates while recruitment of any government post.
