Imphal, Feb 26:

An assessment camp aimed at providing assistance to elderly individuals aged 60 years and above, as well as differently-abled persons from various backgrounds, was organized in Manipur. The program was conducted by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Takyel, Imphal, and the Justice Committee on the Anglo-Manipur War 1891, Martyrs, and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak, Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the Justice Committee, Joychandra Konthoujam, highlighted the grave situation prevailing in Manipur. He stated that the state is undergoing one of its most challenging times, making it inappropriate for any form of celebration. He urged people to acknowledge the crisis and take necessary actions to protect the land and its people.
The ongoing turmoil in Manipur has resulted in numerous casualties, with thousands displaced in relief camps. Youths face an uncertain future, and families are struggling to survive amidst food shortages, harsh weather conditions, and growing insecurity. The blockade of national highways has hindered the supply of essential goods to Imphal, while illegal taxation and extortion have further exacerbated the hardships faced by the people.
Joychandra Konthoujam stressed that the people of Manipur must question the actions of those in power and hold them accountable for resolving the crisis. He emphasized the importance of electing genuine leaders who work for the welfare of the state. After two years of suffering, he urged people to recognize the truth and focus on rebuilding the state rather than being misled.
He further called for fair elections, free from money power and bribery, ensuring that the electoral process reflects the true aspirations of the people.
At this critical juncture, he appealed to the people of Manipur, along with civil society organizations (CSOs), to come together and safeguard the indigenous Meitei community while protecting the land for future generations.
