Assembly pays homage to former PM and leaders on first day of session

The first day of the 7th session of the 12 th Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced with obituary references, with members of the House paying homage to several prominent national and state personalities who passed away recently.
Moving the obituary resolution, the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th. Satyabrata, recalled the services and contributions of the departed leaders and public figures. The House paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Governor of Manipur La Ganesan.
Obituary references were also made in respect of several former Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. They included Thodam Debendra, former MLA from 40-Jiribam Assembly Constituency; BD Behring, former MLA from 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency; Henam Lokhon Singh, former MLA from 18-Konthoujam Assembly Constituency; Vungzagin Valte, former MLA from 56-Thanlon (ST) Assembly Constituency; Dr. Khashim Ruivah, former MLA from 45-Chingai (ST) Assembly Constituency; N. Kayisii, sitting Member of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly from 49-Tadubi Assembly Constituency; Thangminlen Kipgen, former MLA from 50-Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency; Meinam Bhorot Singh, former MLA from 9-Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency; Peter Pheirei, former MLA from 45-Chingai (ST) Assembly Constituency; and Yumnam Mani Singh, former MLA from 22-Wangoi Assembly Constituency.
The House also remembered Aribam Bimola, former Member of the Manipur State Territorial Assembly in 1967, and two former Secretaries of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Thokchom Babu Singh and Rajkumar Modhusana.
Leader of the House Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Leader of the Opposition Okram Ibobi Singh, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and other members joined the Speaker in paying their respects.
Members observed a moment of silence as a mark of respect before the House proceeded with the day’s business.
The session saw participation both in person and virtually, with Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen joining remotely. Other attendees included BJP MLAs LM Khaute and N Sanate, as well as Kimneo Hangshing from the Kuki People’s Alliance.
