“News article published by certain sections of media based on press release of proscribed group in Manipur intended to malign the reputation of Assam Rifles”, a statement by the IGAR (S) said.
The statement added that the Assam Rifles have rendered yeoman service in the North East guarding the Indo Myanmar Borders, conducting people friendly counter insurgency operations & more importantly providing succor & relief to the people of North East in times of need over the years.
“Regrettably, certain sections of media have aired allegations, against this very force, which incidentally have been levied by a proscribed group in Manipur whose sole purpose is to malign the image of Assam Rifles as also disturb peace & harmony in the region”, the statement said and added that the News Articles have been published with uncorroborated facts stated by the proscribed group & the same is strongly rebutted. It is also submitted that indicators of normalcy in North East & consequent removal of AFSPA is a welcome step, not acceptable to the proscribed groups, which was a result of improved security situation brought in by the desire of the people to bring lasting peace in North East.
“The Assam Rifles strongly deny undertaking any activity against the interests of local populace and remains committed to the security and well-being of the people of North East”, the statement added.
