Assam Rifles seizes precious stones

11 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one smuggler, aged 46 years, resident of Senapati District, Manipur.
On 24 May 2018, specific information was received from reliable sources by 11 Assam Rifles regarding move of banned contraband items in a Maruti Eeco Van (Registration Number MN 01G-9056) from Moreh to Imphal. Acting on the specific information a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was activated near KLP location, Moreh for checking of the vehicle. At approximately 0940 hours on 24 May 2018 the vehicle reached the Check Post and the team of 11 Assam Rifles stopped the vehicle. On checking the vehicle, 103 Blue Sapphire stones(approximately 75 grams) and 148 Yellow Sapphire stones (approximately 275 grams) were found concealed in the vehicle.
The individual and recovered items were handed over to customs preventive force, Moreh.
