Assam Rifles organises Football Tournament at Indo-Myanmar Border

Assam Rifles organized the first ever Friendship Cup Football Tournament between Indian and Myanmar villages along the Indo-Myanmar border with aims to boost the growing ties between India and Myanmar.               
The inaugural Friendship Cup kicked off to a rousing start in the sleepy remote hamlet of Nampisha in Kamjong district of Manipur on 27 September 2019. Five teams from border villages of Myanmar and seven from India participated in the tournament. The attractive prizes included the winner’s purse of Rs 35,000 with a sizeable Rs 25,000/- for runners up, consolation prizes of Rs 5,000/- for each participating team from Myanmar along with trophies and medals.                                              
The final match was played between Teijang village team from Myanmar against the host team from Nampisha village on 29 September. In an intense and pulsating match, Teijang team from Myanmar won after a penalty shootout with the score reading 4-2. A vibrant cultural show was also presented by villagers from both sides of the Indo-Myanmar border
