Imphal, June 21:

Adding a holistic approach to Manipur’s fight against the Coronavirus, the Art of Living Manipur teamed up with the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, to provide yoga-based immunity enhancement training programme to its employees and children staying in various shelter homes across the state. Over 300 employees of various ranks and over 2000 children attended a three-day online training programme. The 45-minute per day programme for the children was conducted in many batches from 1st to 18th June and the programme for the adult was conducted from 18th to 20th June in five different batches.
Trained instructors of the Art of Living Manipur conducted the training which comprised yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. The participants learnt many proven techniques for boosting immunity and improving the functioning of the lungs.
The training culminated in a grand virtual International Day of Yoga celebration on Monday with the participants from both the groups joining in online. The programme was also streamed live on the Facebook page of the Art of Living Manipur.
The training programme was a brainchild of the Director of Social Welfare Shri Ngangom Uttam Singh. Addressing the participants, he highlighted the benefits of yoga, terming it as the only exercise that takes care of physical, mental and emotional health of a person. Emphasising the need for finding time to regularly practise yoga and exercises, he said it is like charging the mobile. “Unless the battery is charged, mobile will not work. Similarly, if we don’t recharge ourselves, our body will breakdown,” he said. He also urged the government to explore the possibilities of providing such opportunities to its employees. “A healthy workforce will mean a better state and nation,” he added. He also lauded the Art of Living and its founder Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for coming forward to provide such effective training programmes free of cost during these challenging times.
“It’s Gurudev’s vision to help people boost their immunity and maintain their mental health during this time of crisis and pandemic. I am happy that many people in our state are also benefiting from that vision,” shared Irom Soni, a senior faculty of the Art of Living Manipur. “During such times, people need something that will strengthen our immunity and keep our spirit high. These yoga-based techniques do that naturally. Yoga also brings solace and inner strength, which are very much needed to go through the current difficult times,” she added.
The Art of Living, in collaboration with International Association of Human Values (IAHV), also provided ayurveda-based immunity enhancement supplements to the participants of the programme who are mostly frontline workers of the department. A packet each comprising four holistic supplements manufactured by Sri Sri Tattva, Bangalore, are being handed over to the participants through the department. Introducing the supplements and their benefits, senior faculty of the Art of Living Laishram Dixon Singh said, the combination of yoga and ayurveda can do wonders for our overall well-being. “This philosophy looks beyond just illness and ensures holistic wellness,” he said.
