Army Chief visits Manipur, reviews security and meets Governor

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi visited Manipur on Wednesday to review the security situation and assess the operational readiness of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations deployed in the state.
Accompanied by the Army Commander of Eastern Command, the General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and other senior officers, General Dwivedi called on Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. During the meeting, the Governor congratulated the Army leadership on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and lauded the forces for their professionalism and dedication in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The meeting also touched upon the commencement of the 134th edition of the Durand Cup football tournament. General Dwivedi expressed gratitude to the Governor and the state government for their support in organising the event in Imphal.
During his visit, the Army Chief received detailed briefings on ground-level deployments and the current law and order situation. He interacted with the troops and commended their resilience and commitment under challenging conditions.
In the evening, General Dwivedi attended the Durand Cup match at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, where local clubs NEROCA FC and TRAU FC faced off in a Group F encounter. The event featured military demonstrations, aerial displays by Army Aviation and Special Forces, and cultural performances showcasing Manipur’s heritage.
The visit reflected the Indian Army’s continued efforts to strengthen military-civil cooperation and promote peace, development, and youth engagement through sports in the region.
