Armed miscreants loot SBI Branch in K. Salbung Village, Churachandpur District

A brazen robbery unfolded at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in K. Salbung village, Churachandpur District, early this morning, as unidentified armed miscreants made off with a sum of Rupees 20 lakhs, reports a reliable source. Authorities are presently conducting investigations into the incident.
According to credible sources, the robbery occurred at approximately 2 pm, with four assailants wielding weapons storming the bank premises. During the heist, a round was fired, and an estimated sum of Rupees 20 lakhs was stolen.
This marks the fourth bank robbery reported in Manipur since the outbreak of ethnic violence in the state. Banks in the district have been targeted in similar incidents in the past.
One such incident occurred at an Axis Bank branch in Churachandpur, located at the junction of Teddim Road and Thangzam Road, on July 10, 2023. Sources revealed that over Rs 1 crore in cash, along with a substantial quantity of gold, was looted on the bank’s opening day, despite the front door remaining intact.
Similarly, a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Ukhrul headquarters fell victim to an alleged robbery of Rs 18.85 lakhs by at least 10 unidentified armed men on November 30, 2023.
The entire episode of the SBI bank robbery in Viewland Bazaar in Ukhrul was captured on CCTV, marking one of the largest and most audacious bank heists in Manipur’s history.
