Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei organisation in Manipur, has extended support to the recent remarks of Tamil Nadu Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi concerning the growing problem of illegal immigration in the North Eastern states, particularly in Manipur.
The Tamil Nadu Governor had cautioned that the influx of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar is not solely for economic reasons but forms part of a larger design to destabilise India, even drawing parallels to conditions preceding the partition. Echoing his concerns, Arambai Tenggol observed that the unchecked presence of illegal settlers has deeply affected the socio-political and economic fabric of the state.
The organisation alleged that illegal immigrants have encroached upon reserved forest lands, occupied properties without authority, and resorted to activities such as poppy cultivation to finance terror operations. It further pointed to the rise of Kuki militant groups, allegedly engaged in narco-terror activities and pushing for the creation of a separate nation called “Zalengam,” which it described as a grave threat to national security and India’s territorial integrity.
Calling for urgent action, Arambai Tenggol demanded the immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur to identify and deport illegal immigrants. The group also urged the government to strengthen border fencing and adopt stringent mechanisms to prevent further infiltration.
Laishram Robason, Control Room Operator of Arambai Tenggol, remarked that the Governor’s statement should be treated as a wake-up call, stressing that both the central and state governments must act swiftly to secure Manipur’s future. “Arambai Tenggol stands committed to supporting efforts that protect the integrity and future of Manipur and India,” he stated.
The demand has once again brought the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront of political discourse in the state, with calls for coordinated policy measures to safeguard the region from demographic imbalance and security threats.
