The All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) has issued a strong statement expressing deep concern over the prolonged delay in resolving the Indo-Naga political issue despite the historic signing of the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the Framework Agreement, ANSAM reaffirmed the Naga people’s full support for the accord, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders. The student body said the Agreement had raised hopes for a logical and early political settlement. However, a decade has passed with no tangible outcome, leading to growing public frustration and distrust.
ANSAM acknowledged the efforts of former Indian Prime Ministers, particularly Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who officially recognised the “unique history and situation of the Nagas” in 2002, a recognition the association described as a milestone in the peace process. The student body recalled that this recognition accepted Nagas as a historically independent people whose political issue is not a mere law-and-order problem.
The statement accused the current Indian leadership of using delay tactics and failing to act in good faith. It called on the Centre to restore the peace process to its intended course and uphold the spirit of the Framework Agreement. ANSAM reiterated that any solution must include recognition of the Naga flag, constitution, and integration, which it described as “inalienable rights” of the Naga people.
Calling for unity among all Nagas, the association urged the people to remain vigilant and committed in their collective struggle for a just and inclusive political solution that reflects the historical and political rights of the Naga people.
