Amur Falcon Run marks a decade of conservation in Tamenglong District

The Rainforest Club Tamenglong, under the initiative of the Divisional Forest Officer, Tamenglong, and in collaboration with the 6th Assam Rifles, organised the Amur Falcon Run 2025 today to celebrate ten years of dedicated conservation of the migratory Amur Falcons in Tamenglong district.
A total of 82 runners, including 22 women, took part in the 10 km run, showcasing strong community support for the conservation movement. In the men’s category, Gainithui Malangmei of Pongringlong occupied the first position, followed by Kh. Wahid of New Checkon, Pourimyibe Pame of Phoklong, and Muhammad Kurbash Khan of Wangjing. This year’s conservation efforts achieved a big achievement with the successful satellite transmitter tagging of three Amur Falcons, named Apapang, Ahu, and Alang. All three birds successfully completed their non-stop flights across the Arabian Sea and reached Africa in seven days, placing Manipur on the global conservation map.
Dr. Chambo Gonmei, founder of Rainforest Club Tamenglong, was recently honored with the Guardians of Himalayas Award 2025 at the Dehradun Literature Festival in recognition of his work on wildlife conservation.
It was attended by Dr. Chambo Gonmei; Colonel Navjot Rekhi, Commandant of 6 Assam Rifles; Lieutenant Colonel Anupam; Promeshor Angom; Range Forest Officer Tamenglong; members from civil society, youth groups, and village leaders.
