AMUCO, UCM and other CSOs set to observe Great June Uprising and Unity Day

All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO), United Committee Manipur (UCM) and other civil society bodies in the state is set to observe the The Great June Uprising and Unity Day tomorrow.
The major civil society bodies of the state has been observing the day to pay respect to the 18 plus Martyrs who had laid down their lives in a mass uprising against the extension of cease fire between the NSCN-IM and the Government of India to the territory of Manipur in 2001.
Main observance will be held at Kekrupat complex . Fitting tribute will be paid to the memorials of the martyrs constructed at Kekrupat like every year.
Mention may be made that  on June 14, 2001, a day after the the Defence Minister of India George Fernandes assured the people that the cease fire will be confined to the state of Nagaland, then Indian Interlucotor  Padmana Bhaiya signed an agreement with the leadership of the NSCN -IM at Bangkok stating that the cease fire agreement between the NSCN-IM and GoI had been extended “without territorial limit”.
The agreement sparked protest in the state. Even the state assembly was burnt by the people. People pour their anger to the political parties but there were no communal clashed.
