The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) will observe “Regeneration Month” from July 27 to August 27 to promote a self-reliant and united Manipur while commemorating the 61st Hunger Marchers’ Day.
Addressing a press briefing on Sunday, AMSU president Manlangba Meitei said the month-long campaign is being organised in view of the prevailing social, political and economic challenges facing the state. He said the initiative aims to encourage students and the public to reflect on Manipur’s past, understand present challenges and contribute towards rebuilding society.
Manlangba said the campaign would also honour the sacrifices made during the mass movement of August 27, 1965, when several people lost their lives during the agitation against food scarcity and injustice.
He said various awareness programmes would be organised to promote unity, social harmony, public responsibility and collective efforts to address divisions, misinformation and other challenges confronting the state.
The AMSU president said the month-long observance would culminate with the 61st Hunger Marchers’ Day on August 27. He appealed to students and the public to actively participate in the campaign and work together towards building a peaceful, resilient and self-reliant Manipur.
