The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has extended its support to the ongoing agitation by PhD research scholars of various departments of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) over the non-disbursement of stipends to scholars from the 2022, 2024 and 2026 batches.
In a press release, AMSU Publicity and Information Secretary Serto Rengneier Kom stated that higher education plays a crucial role in shaping the future of society and ensuring quality education for the younger generation.
AMSU expressed concern over the functioning of DMU, stating that the university, which has completed 10 years of existence, continues to face shortcomings in infrastructure and other facilities required for effective functioning.
The student body said research scholars pursuing PhD programmes in various departments are important contributors to the advancement of higher education and should receive adequate support and encouragement from the government.
It stated that the ongoing agitation by DMU research scholars demanding the immediate release of their pending stipends is a legitimate movement and deserves the support of all concerned. The total number of research scholars across various departments of DMU currently stands at 792, covering three batches.
