The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) on Sunday organised a painting competition as part of its ongoing 46th Realisation Month observance under the theme “Infiltration of Illegal Migrants and the Future of Manipur.”
The competition, held at Law College, was conducted in three categories and saw participation of over 500 students from different schools.
In Category A, Khangembam Chandra Meitei of Wangkhei High School secured first position, while Seram Jashita Chanu of Nongpok Maheikol and Brikrama Lourembam of The Comprehensive School clinched the top spots in Category B and Category C respectively.
Speaking on the sidelines, AMSU HRD Secretary Santosh Ningthoujam stated that the event formed part of a series of activities being organised during the Realisation Month, including poster campaigns, academic programmes and street-corner meetings.
He stated that AMSU has been raising concerns over illegal migration since the 1980s and reiterated the need for measures such as a proper Census and identification of citizens. The student body also renewed its demand for implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The organisation further stressed the importance of creating awareness among students, stating that the younger generation has a key role in understanding the challenges facing the state and contributing towards safeguarding its future.
