Imphal, May 28: The 28th Students Emancipation Day was organised today at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School by the Bishnupur District Committee of All Manipur Students’ Union.
The highlight of the observation of the function as in previous years was the paying of floral tributes to student’s leaders who died in police custody.
Organisers who related the history of the annual event said in the 1970s students of the school who were agitating to demand better facilities were put into custody at Moirang Police Station. Inside the station three students were reportedly killed in police firing. The observation was held in remembrance of the departed student’s leaders by the Bishnupur unit of AMSU.
A seven-day residential leadership camp was organised at Ningthoukhong High School in the lead up to the event from May 22 to 27.
